HB0842 Rep. Weaver / SB0989 Sen. Beaver

Representative Weaver lives in the lovely rural district near the Kentucky border about 1/2 way between Nashville and Knoxville.

Her constituents who home school have let her know that many of the group learning events, like the arts and sports, are not available locally.  Those larger group activities may be available for home schoolers in larger cities, but not there.

This bill seeks the balance of keeping home schooling private and under parental control, while at the same time opening selected group learning environments in local public schools.

Specifically the bill would authorize a homeschooled student to participate in certain specific activities in the local public school they would otherwise attend.

Rep. Weaver hopes to launch a pilot project in one of the school districts that are in the boundary of her house district.
